Fluffy Homemade Biscuits Recipe

Step 1: Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
Step 3: Cut in the Butter

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4: Add the Buttermilk

Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir gently with a fork until the dough comes together. Avoid overmixing.
Step 5: Shape the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it 3–4 times to bring it together.
Pat the dough into a rectangle about ¾-inch thick. Fold it in half, rotate it, and pat it out again. Repeat this process 2–3 times for flaky layers.
Step 6: Cut Out Biscuits

Use a round biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out biscuits. Press straight down without twisting to ensure they rise evenly. Gather and re-roll scraps as needed.
Step 7: Bake

Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
Step 8: Serve Warm

Brush the tops with melted butter if desired and serve warm with your favorite toppings.
